Free Trauma Guide
If you have a history of trauma, then please take a look at this guide to better understand your symptoms. It describes the nature of PTSD and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Trauma plays a major role in the development of our brain. It affects our thoughts, feelings and behavior. There is an example in the guide that shows the difference between a healthy brain and a traumatized brain. There is also information about hormones and biochemicals involved in the stress reaction. You can read about neuroplasticity and how to improve mood, attention, memory and emotional regulation.
Grounding Essentials
We will practice various techniques to reduce negative thoughts and uncomfortable feelings. One way to regulate your emotions is by grounding, using the five senses - sight, smell, feel, hear and taste. Grounding helps calm your nervous system, decreasing anxiety and stress. Studies show that grounding can help pull you away from flashbacks and unwanted memories, making it easier to self-soothe.
Coloring Pages
Free downloadable adult coloring pages for those of you that love to express yourself through art. Notice the octopus coloring page in the middle of the journal. It symbolizes strength, courage, and resilience. The octopus enters this world alone. No parents to teach it how to survive in a dangerous ocean world. It is extremely intelligent and resourceful. The octopus never gives up, even if a shark bites off a tentacle!
St. Joseph Orphanage
Also known as New Path Child & Family Solutions, the oldest social service agency founded by the Sisters of Charity as an orphanage over 190 years ago. New Path helps children that are suffering from mental health due to abuse, neglect and trauma. New Path is a safe haven where children can thrive.
Children that are orphaned by their parents have similar traits as the octopus; they rise above adversity and develop a strong character to overcome obstacles. They are wonderfully bright and wise beyond their years.
Peace Post Trauma donates 10% of all earnings annually to New Path. Giving is a way to support and honor these amazing children. Let’s open our hearts and help them achieve their highest potential. Please visit the New Path website for further information.
